Troops Repel Boko Haram Attack in Borno, Rescue Abducted Victims in Zamfara
Troops of the Nigerian military and security forces recorded major operational successes in separate encounters against terrorists and bandits in Borno and Zamfara States, reinforcing ongoing efforts to restore peace and security across the country.
In Borno State, troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF), North East Operation Hadin Kai, in collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), repelled a Boko Haram/ISWAP attack on Kurnari village in Buratai District, Biu Local Government Area.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the attack occurred around 1:34 a.m. on Monday when a large number of terrorists stormed the village. A patrol team on the ground engaged the insurgents in a fierce gun battle before reinforcements led by the Commanding Officer of 135 Battalion arrived to bolster the troops.
“The attack was successfully repelled. Our troops also executed two direct fire missions along the terrorists’ withdrawal route from their base,” a source said.
Although no civilian or military casualties were recorded, the terrorists partially burnt a house and destroyed an electricity pole supplying Kurnari and Buratai communities, plunging the villages into darkness before the assault.
