Police Chief Commissions 59 Armoured Vehicles to Bolster Operations
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on Friday, commissioned 59 Armoured Toyota Hilux Vehicles at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, in a move designed to bolster the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force.
The newly acquired vehicles, specially built to withstand hostile fire and harsh terrains while offering speed, durability, and protection, are expected to significantly enhance the effectiveness of tactical and special units in combating insecurity nationwide.
Speaking during the commissioning, IGP Egbetokun said the initiative underscores the police leadership’s determination to deliver measurable results in safeguarding lives and property. He noted that the commissioning comes at a critical time when insecurity is becoming increasingly complex and widespread across Africa, with Nigeria facing its own unique challenges.

“These vehicles are not for ceremonial display but strategic reinforcements in our broader framework to strengthen operations, enhance intelligence gathering, and enforce accountability across all levels of the Force,” the IGP declared.
He further charged commanders and tactical operatives to ensure the vehicles are fully deployed for lawful and decisive operations, stressing that they must not remain idle while Nigerians face security threats.
“Criminal elements must no longer find safe haven in any part of our nation. Every deployment must be lawful, proportionate, and result-oriented,” Egbetokun said, assuring citizens that the investment in equipment will soon reflect in declining crime rates and improved public confidence in the police.
The commissioning of the 59 armoured vehicles marks another step in ongoing efforts to modernize the Nigeria Police Force and strengthen its tactical response to evolving security challenges.
