Customs Ends 2025 PR Workshop in Kano, Award PR Officers for Outstanding Performance

The Nigeria Customs Service rounded off its 2025 Public Relations Officers Workshop in Kano on Thursday, 26 September 2025, with a resounding call on officers to embrace professionalism, resilience, and innovation in projecting the Service’s image and building stronger trust with stakeholders.

The five-day workshop, which brought together Public Relations Officers, communication experts, and seasoned resource persons, focused on strengthening communication strategies, improving institutional transparency, and aligning PR functions with the Service’s modernisation drive. It provided a platform for knowledge sharing between officers, academics, and media practitioners, while also offering participants practical insights into modern communication dynamics.

The National PRO of Customs, Assistant Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, expressed his gratitude to all attendees and facilitators, noting that the achievements recorded during the workshop reflected the collective dedication of all participants. “I believe whatever success we have recorded is a product of teamwork. One cannot do it alone. This is our success,” he remarked, highlighting the spirit of collaboration that guided the programme.

To mark the end of the event, a dinner night was held in honour of officers and men serving in the Unit, stakeholders, and resource persons. The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, was represented by the Area Controller of the Kano/Jigawa Command, Comptroller Abubakar Dalhatu, who commended participants for their commitment and shared encouraging feedback received during the workshop. “A professor revealed to me that, as a result of this workshop, the perception of the Nigeria Customs Service has changed from negative to positive. I was happy to hear this,” he said.

Reinforcing the charge to officers, the CGC stressed the importance of consistency in communication, saying: “The message for all PROs of the Nigeria Customs Service is that we still have a lot of work to do. We have many upright officers with integrity. It is our responsibility and duty to continue to push this narrative.”

The week-long programme culminated in a cultural and educational tour of Kano State. Participants visited Minjibir Park, explored the historic Gidan Makama Museum and Gidan Dan Hausa, and experienced traditional dances and entertainment. Beyond learning, the tours offered officers and guests a unique taste of Kano’s heritage, culture, and hospitality, underscoring the Service’s commitment, not only to professional growth but also to cultural connection and appreciation.
