Nigeria at 65: Tinubu Lists 12 Economic Gains of His Reforms

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday marked Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary by reeling out what he described as 12 key economic milestones achieved under his administration, insisting that the country is on the path to stability and growth.

In a nationwide broadcast, Tinubu said the difficult reforms of the past year were already producing measurable results. According to him, Nigeria has turned the corner on its economic crisis, with indicators pointing to renewed strength.

The President outlined the achievements as follows:

1. Inflation rate trending downward after months of acceleration.

2. A stabilised foreign exchange market, with the naira regaining lost ground.

3. Return of trade surplus, reversing years of deficits.

4. Foreign reserves rising to $42 billion, strengthening external buffers.

5. Non-oil revenue collection hitting N20 trillion for the first time.

6. Positive GDP growth despite global economic headwinds.

7. Expansion of agricultural output and reduction in food import dependency.

8. Improvement in fiscal discipline and public financial management.

9. Increased foreign investor interest in Nigeria’s capital and energy markets.

10. Stabilisation of fuel supply and downstream deregulation after subsidy removal.

11. Expansion of social investment programmes to cushion vulnerable households.

12. Renewed confidence in Nigeria’s long-term economic outlook from international partners.

“These are not promises. These are results. Our economy is stronger today than it was one year ago. The sacrifices of our people are yielding fruit, and we must stay the course,” Tinubu said.

The President noted that his administration’s bold steps, including fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification, had been painful but necessary to halt economic decline. He assured Nigerians that the government would continue to prioritise policies that deliver inclusive growth, job creation and poverty reduction.

Calling for patience and resilience, Tinubu said the reforms were laying the foundation for sustainable prosperity. “The worst is behind us, and together we are building a new Nigeria where opportunity will not be the privilege of a few but the right of every citizen,” he added.
