STEP-BY-STEP: How to Apply for New Digital Tinted Glass Permit as Police Begin Enforcement

The Nigeria Police Force’s introduction of a digital tinted glass permit has sparked widespread public debate, even as enforcement officially commenced on October 2, 2025.

In April this year, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, announced that all motorists must obtain an annual tinted glass permit through an online process for a prescribed fee. The policy is anchored on the Police Specialized Services Automation Portal (POSSAP), available at www.possap.gov.ng

, where applicants can register, validate, and manage their permits.

What is POSSAP?

POSSAP is the official digital platform of the Nigeria Police Force designed to streamline access to a variety of police services. Among these is the reactivated Tinted Glass Permit (TGP), which has now been digitized to promote transparency, verification, and convenience for vehicle owners nationwide.

How to Apply for a Digital Tinted Glass Permit

The system offers a seamless technology-driven process that allows motorists to authenticate and validate their details online. Here’s the step-by-step guide:

Registration: Visit www.possap.gov.ng

and sign up. Individuals must use their National Identification Number (NIN) and Vehicle Number (VN), while corporate applicants will use their Tax Identification Number (TIN).

Service Selection: Choose the “Tinted Glass Permit” option from the list of available services.

Verification: Select your preferred virtual verification method for your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). You will be redirected to a page to validate the VIN and make a ₦2,850 payment.

Document Upload: Return to the application page and upload required documents, including proof of vehicle ownership, vehicle licence data page, and a clear photograph of your car. Ensure files are below 2MB to avoid errors.

Application Fee: Pay the application fee of ₦14,200.

Facial Verification: Complete the facial verification process, either through automatic redirection or by using the link sent to your email.

Receipt & Processing: Download your application receipt for records. The Police will then review your submission through the POSSAP platform.

Approval & Issuance: Once approved, the tinted glass permit will be issued digitally via the portal.

The Police have advised applicants to ensure all details provided match their official vehicle registration records to avoid delays or rejection.

Despite legal challenges surrounding the policy, the NPF insists that nationwide enforcement will continue as planned.
