Troops Neutralise Terrorists, Repel Boko Haram Attack in Borno

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have intensified counterterrorism operations in Borno State, neutralising five Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Bama Local Government Area while also repelling a separate coordinated attack on security formations in Banki.

Security sources revealed that the first operation was carried out on October 3 at Dipchari, a notorious insurgent crossing point situated between 151 and 152 Battalions in Bama. Acting on intelligence, the troops launched a decisive ambush against Boko Haram logistics elements, killing five terrorists in a brief firefight while others fled with gunshot wounds. The raid was part of the ongoing Operation Desert Sanity IV, aimed at disrupting insurgent logistics networks and restricting their movement across the area.

In a related development, suspected Boko Haram fighters staged a coordinated attack at about 1:17 a.m. on Saturday in Banki, targeting the Amchide Military Base, the Divisional Police Headquarters, as well as Nigeria Immigration Service and Customs control posts.

However, joint security forces, comprising troops and other personnel, swiftly engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle that forced them to retreat. During the encounter, one police constable, Abubakar Ibrahim of 9 PMF on special duty, sustained a minor leg injury and was promptly treated at the FHI 360 NGO clinic before being discharged.

The sources added that troops have been placed on heightened alert across Bama to forestall further attacks, even as the theatre command maintains pressure on terrorist enclaves to eliminate lingering threats in the North East.
