ICPC to Prosecute Self-Acclaimed Kano Journalist for Alleged ₦14 Million Fraud
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is set to prosecute a self-acclaimed journalist based in Kano, Mr. Alkazim Kabir, also known as ‘Abbati Kabiru Abuwa,’ for alleged involvement in multiple fraudulent activities totaling approximately ₦14 million.
The decision to charge Mr. Kabir follows a series of petitions accusing him of persistent fraud, false representation, and the impersonation of high-ranking public officials.
ICPC investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly impersonated various public figures, including aides to the President and Vice President, as well as members of the National Assembly, to defraud unsuspecting victims.

In one instance, he reportedly obtained $3,300 and 1,620 Saudi Riyals from two victims after falsely claiming to be a Presidential and Vice-Presidential aide.
Further findings indicated that Mr. Kabir specialized in obtaining money and goods under false pretenses, often exploiting opportunities related to international religious travel. During a trip to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, he allegedly borrowed 11,000 Saudi Riyals from a fellow traveler and later sent a forged bank receipt as proof of repayment. He is also accused of issuing a fake transfer receipt of ₦3.2 million to a travel agent for flight, hotel, and train bookings.
The charges have been filed against the suspect, and he will soon be arraigned before a competent court of law once the case is assigned.
The statement announcing the prosecution was signed by Demola Bakare, Director of Public Enlightenment and Education and Spokesperson for the Commission.
