Delta Police Arrest Ritualists, Internet Fraudsters, Recover Firearms

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have recorded another breakthrough in the fight against crime and insecurity with the arrest of suspected ritualists, internet fraudsters, and armed robbers in separate sting operations across the state.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, on Friday, the first operation was carried out on October 6, 2025, following credible intelligence on cult-related activities around Ibusa and its environs in Oshimili North Local Government Area.

Acting swiftly on the intelligence, operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) stormed the residence of one Onwugbenu Olisa, located along Umunye Bypass by Power Line, Ibusa. Although the prime suspect escaped before the arrival of the police, the team apprehended one Okechukwu Okwudili Nwanolue, a 45-year-old man from Abala-Obodo community in Aniocha North LGA.

A search conducted in the premises led to the recovery of one pump-action rifle loaded with three live cartridges, two laptops suspected to be used for internet fraud, a live snail, and other fetish items concealed in a shrine believed to be used for ritual purposes. The police spokesperson said efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspect and his accomplices.

In a separate development, on October 7, 2025, at about 6:30 a.m., the same CP-Special Assignment Team, acting on credible intelligence, raided a criminal hideout at Adheje Community along the Sapele-Warri road, where members of an armed syndicate had been terrorizing motorists and dispossessing them of their valuables.

During the operation, two suspects — Lucky Tenaera, 24, from Okwetolor community in Sapele LGA, and Prince Emma Esemedafe, 38, from Effurun in Uvwie LGA — were arrested. Items recovered from them include one locally made long gun, eleven ATM cards, and other incriminating materials.

SP Edafe Bright confirmed that both suspects are currently in police custody while investigations continue to uncover and apprehend other members of the criminal network.

He reiterated the Delta State Command’s commitment under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police to sustaining the onslaught against crime and ensuring that every part of the state remains safe for residents and visitors.

“The Command remains resolute in its commitment to rid the state of criminal elements. We urge residents to continue providing useful information to assist the police in maintaining peace and security,” SP Edafe stated.
