Troops Kill 9 Boko Haram Fighters, Recover ₦5m Ransom in Borno

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have neutralized nine Boko Haram fighters and recovering over ₦5 million ransom money during coordinated operations around Magumeri and Gajiram general areas of Borno State.

According to a statement by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force North East, the operations followed credible intelligence reports on the movement of terrorists around Goni Dunari in Magumeri Local Government Area on 10 October 2025.

The insurgents, reportedly moving in two vehicles and on foot, were sighted setting houses ablaze and terrorizing locals. Acting swiftly, troops mobilized for an aggressive fighting patrol to intercept them.

As the soldiers advanced, the terrorists attempted to flee towards Damjiyakiri village, abandoning their vehicles and scattering in multiple directions.

Troops pursued them for nearly 92 kilometres and eventually made contact after about four hours of tactical chase. In the ensuing firefight, five terrorists were neutralized, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds, leaving behind weapons, ammunition, and other items. Notably, there were no casualties or equipment losses recorded by the troops.

In a related development along the Gajiram–Bolori–Mile 40–Gajiganna axis, troops conducting another fighting patrol on motorcycles engaged Boko Haram fighters near Zundur village. During the encounter, four terrorists were neutralized, and two abducted civilians — Mr. Modu Kinnami and Mr. Bukar, both from Guzamala — were successfully rescued.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the terrorists had demanded a ransom of ₦2 million and two mobile phones for the release of one of their victims’ relatives. The troops, however, recovered about ₦5.1 million, two phones, a pickup vehicle, and other logistics items during the operation.

Thv military spokeman stated that follow-up clearance operations are ongoing across all fronts to maintain pressure on the terrorists and deny them freedom of movement within the region. He reaffirmed the determination of the Joint Task Force to sustain the tempo until peace and stability are fully restored to the North-East.
