Lusaka Set to Host Historic Launch of League of African Ambassadors

A new chapter in Africa’s diplomatic journey is about to unfold as the League of African Ambassadors (LAA) prepares for its historic launch in Lusaka on October 14, 2025.

The event, jointly hosted by the LAA Secretariat and the Government of Zambia, marks the official unveiling of a continental platform dedicated to strengthening unity, policy innovation, and Africa-driven solutions to global challenges.

Comprising serving and former ambassadors from across the continent, the League aims to foster dialogue and collaboration on issues including peace and security, trade and investment, climate resilience, and cultural diplomacy.

Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Ambassador Nwanne Ominyi, President of the League, described the launch as a turning point for African diplomacy.

“This is a great moment in the history of Africa to stand up to be counted. The League of African Ambassadors is not just a ceremonial body, it is a strategic engine for Africa’s voice in the scheme of international diplomacy and advocacy. Out of Lusaka, the League will amplify African perspectives and promote oneness to showcase the beauty of diversity.” he said.

The inaugural event, to be held at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre (KK Wing), will feature keynote speeches from diplomats, regional leaders, business figures, and civil society representatives. It will also witness the unveiling of the League’s founding President, Charter, Board of Trustees, and Strategic Roadmap for 2025–2026.

A major highlight of the occasion will be the adoption of “The Lusaka Declaration on African Unity,” a landmark policy statement reaffirming the continent’s commitment to Pan-African ideals and a collective pursuit of self-determination in global affairs.

According to the organizers, the League will serve as a “one-stop hub” for shaping effective and coordinated engagement among African states and institutions while also ensuring the continent’s voice is not just heard but respected in international policy circles.

Media organizations, diplomatic missions, academic institutions, and civil society groups have been invited to witness and participate in the historic event, which begins at 10:00 AM CAT.

The launch of the LAA is being viewed as a bold step toward redefining Africa’s diplomatic posture anchored on unity, self-reliance, and proactive engagement with the world.
