DSS Warns Public Against another Dismissed Officer Impersonating Agency
The Department of State Services (DSS) has cautioned Nigerians against dealing with one Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, a dismissed officer accused of impersonating the agency and defrauding unsuspecting members of the public.
The secret police issued the warning on Sunday through a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, @OfficialDSSNG, describing Godwin as a former staff member engaging in “unscrupulous activities” using the name of the Service.

“The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby alerts members of the public of the activities of one Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, a dismissed staff,” the statement read. “He is reportedly engaging in unscrupulous activities, including using the name of the Service to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.”
The DSS urged Nigerians to refrain from any dealings with the suspect and to direct all official enquiries and complaints to the Service’s verified communication channels.
The latest advisory comes just four days after the DSS released a similar statement warning the public about Barry Donald, another dismissed officer allegedly impersonating the agency for fraudulent purposes.
Founded in 1986, the Department of State Services is Nigeria’s domestic intelligence agency responsible for internal security, counterintelligence, and the protection of senior government officials.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding citizens from criminal elements exploiting its name for illegal activities.
