NAF Decorates 64 Senior Officers Promoted to Group Captain

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has decorated 64 officers of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) who were recently promoted from the rank of Wing Commander to Group Captain.

The decoration ceremony, held in Abuja, was conducted on behalf of the Chief of Air Staff by the Director of Veterans Affairs, Air Vice Marshal Chidiebere Obiabaka.

In his remarks, Abubakar described the promotion as a well-deserved recognition of the officers’ exceptional service, professionalism, and commitment to the defence of the nation. He noted that the elevation was both “an honour and a call to greater responsibility,” urging the newly promoted officers to redouble their efforts and uphold the NAF’s core values of integrity, excellence, and service.

“Promotion in the military comes with higher expectations and greater challenges,” Abubakar said. “You must remain steadfast in your duties, continue to exemplify the ideals of the Nigerian Air Force, and contribute meaningfully to national security and the development of airpower in Nigeria.”

The newly decorated officers, joined by their families and colleagues, expressed their gratitude to the Chief of Air Staff and the NAF leadership for the confidence reposed in them. They pledged renewed dedication to duty, professionalism, and service to the nation.

The latest promotion exercise follows that of December 2024, during which the Air Force Council elevated 52 senior officers — 19 to the rank of Air Vice Marshal and 33 to Air Commodore.
