Rivers Police Arrest Two Kidnappers Who Lured Victim Through Dating Site

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested two suspected kidnappers who allegedly lured and abducted a 24-year-old woman through an online dating site in Igbo Etche, Etche Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, identified as Ifeanyi Chukwu Alozie, 25, from Okomoko, and Miracle Nwimene, 25, from Zakpo in Khana Local Government Area, were apprehended following a sting operation by operatives attached to the Special Operations and Intelligence Team (SOIT) of the command.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, said the suspects were arrested at their hideout in Egwi, Etche, on September 22, 2025, a day after the abduction.

According to the statement, the victim was lured through a dating site and kidnapped on September 21 around 8:30 p.m. at Igbo Etche. The suspects later collected a ₦200,000 ransom from her relatives before releasing her.

Iringe-Koko said both suspects voluntarily confessed to the crime during interrogation and provided information that would lead to the arrest of other members of the gang currently at large.

“The victim has been debriefed and reunited with her family, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend fleeing accomplices,” the police spokesperson said.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, commended the operatives for their swift response and professionalism in apprehending the suspects.

He also cautioned the public to be wary of the risks associated with online dating platforms, urging residents to exercise caution and report suspicious activities to the police.
