NSCDC Foils Kidnap Attempt on Customs Officer, Eliminates 2 Suspects, Arrests Others

Operatives of the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’s SIS) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have foiled an attempted kidnapping of an officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, his wife, and another victim in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.

The operation, which took place in the Bukan-Ari area along Kurikyo Road, followed a gun battle between the NSCDC operatives and a notorious kidnapping gang, leading to the neutralization of two suspects, arrest of two others, while one escaped with gunshot wounds.

According to a statement issued by the NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, CSC Afolabi Babawale, Anipr, the successful operation was carried out under the directive of the Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, who had earlier ordered an intensive crackdown on criminal syndicates terrorizing parts of Lafia and its environs.

The Head of the CG’s Special Intelligence Squad, Commandant A.S. Dandaura, JP, disclosed that the operation lasted for five hours and was based on credible intelligence and advanced surveillance technology.

“Our men, in collaboration with the Nasarawa State Command, successfully foiled a kidnap attempt on residents of Bukan-Ari. The Commandant General has zero tolerance for any act of economic sabotage, vandalism, or threats to the lives and property of Nigerians. We will continue to pursue these criminal elements until peace is fully restored,” Dandaura said.

He further explained that the kidnappers were overpowered by the squad’s superior firepower during the encounter, resulting in the arrest of Hassan Ibrahim (23), male, from Azare Local Government Area of Bauchi State, and Ibrahim Hudu (30), male, Fulani. Two members of the gang, identified as Mata (the driver) and Yahaya Abubakar, were killed in the exchange of gunfire.

Items recovered from the scene included one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, 40 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, five mobile phones, two knives, ₦7,500 cash, and some substances suspected to be charms.

Dandaura added that the arrested suspects have already confessed to participating in several kidnapping operations in the state and are assisting investigators in tracking other fleeing members of the gang.

He assured that the NSCDC remains resolute in protecting citizens and securing communities across the country, urging residents to report any suspicious movement to the nearest security agency.
