Police Arrest 11 Suspected Armed Robbers Along Katsina–Kano Highway

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested 11 suspected members of a notorious armed robbery syndicate said to be terrorizing motorists along the Sha’iskawa–Charanchi and Katsina–Kankia–Kano highways.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, disclosed this while briefing journalists on Wednesday in Katsina. He said the suspects specialized in mounting illegal roadblocks to rob unsuspecting travelers of their valuables.

Aliyu identified the suspects as Dikko Maaru, Dardau Kabir, Muntari Musa, Labaran Amadu, Usman Maaru, Lawal Zubairu, Nasiru Sanusi, Adamu Kabir, Abdullahi Zubairu, Muhammad Usman, and Sale Shehu—all aged between 21 and 35.

According to the police spokesperson, the syndicate was dismantled following credible intelligence that led to the interception of one of the suspects on Sunday morning while attempting to sell off stolen items.

He said, “Acting on a tip-off, our operatives swiftly tracked and apprehended the suspect, whose confession led to the arrest of other members of the gang.”

During the operation, police recovered 80 wristwatches, nine mobile phones, and a knife believed to have been used in their criminal activities.

Aliyu added that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bello Shehu, commended the operatives for their diligence and applauded residents for their continued support in providing useful intelligence to security agencies.

The CP urged the public to sustain cooperation with the police by sharing timely information that could help curb criminal activities across the state.

He confirmed that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
