Lagos Police Nab Armed Robbers, Recover Firearms, Stolen Vehicles

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have smashed a notorious car-snatching and armed robbery syndicate that has terrorized motorists across Lagos and neighboring states, arresting four suspected members and recovering a cache of arms, ammunition, and stolen vehicles.

According to the Command, the suspects were apprehended in the early hours of October 17, 2025, following a series of intelligence-led operations carried out between October 15 and 17 by the Command’s Tactical Squads. The arrested suspects were identified as Taiwo Alabi (42), Ogedengbe Lowis (46), Ighodalo Enato Francis (37), and Osaro Eghe Abiodun (34).

Police investigations revealed that the gang specialized in posing as passengers in commercial vehicles before dispossessing unsuspecting private drivers of their cars at gunpoint. The group was also linked to several armed robbery cases in Ogun, Oyo, and Edo States.

Recovered from the suspects were one automatic pump-action shotgun, one Beretta pistol, 48 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 46 live cartridges, a cutlass, assorted charms, one Toyota Sienna, two Lexus ES350 saloon cars, and one Toyota Corolla saloon car.

Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi, who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Friday, said the success followed weeks of “coordinated surveillance and intelligence gathering” on the criminal network.

“The suspects were tracked, trailed, and eventually arrested at their hideout in Igando, Lagos State, after sustained intelligence operations,” Adebisi stated.

“They have confessed to their involvement in multiple armed robberies and car-snatching incidents across Lagos and other Southwest states.”

The statement further noted that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang, as investigations continue.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, assured residents that the Command remains fully committed to ensuring peace and safety in Lagos through intelligence-driven policing.

“We will continue to pursue and dismantle all criminal syndicates operating within the State to guarantee the safety of lives and property,” he said.

The suspects, police added, will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
