NASI Commandant Charges Newly Promoted Colonels to Uphold Discipline, Dedication

The Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Infantry (NASI), Major General Frank Etim, has charged newly promoted senior officers of the institution to redouble their efforts and uphold the core values of professionalism, discipline, and patriotism in the discharge of their duties.

He gave the charge on Friday, 17th October 2025, during a brief but colourful decoration ceremony held at the school auditorium in Jaji Military Cantonment, where two senior officers and one officer were decorated with their new ranks in accordance with military tradition.

Those decorated were Colonel A.I. Jauro, Chief Instructor, Platoon Weapons Wing; Colonel V.A. Oche, SO1 G1 Headquarters NASI; and Captain O.O. Enun, Instructor, All Arms Drill Wing.

In his remarks, Major General Etim congratulated the newly promoted officers, urging them to embrace the responsibilities of their new status with renewed dedication and zeal. He stressed the importance of exemplary leadership, mentorship, and unwavering commitment to the Nigerian Army’s mandate of safeguarding national integrity and combating emerging security threats.

“Promotion comes with higher expectations. You must continue to serve as role models to your subordinates while displaying the discipline, loyalty, and professionalism that define the Nigerian Army,” the Commandant stated.

Also speaking at the event, the Deputy Commandant of NASI, Brigadier General S. Ahmed, along with other senior officers, offered words of wisdom, emphasizing strategic thinking, humility, and steadfast loyalty to the leadership of the Nigerian Army and the nation.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the newly promoted officers, Colonel Abubakar Jauro thanked the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for the recognition and opportunity to serve in higher capacities. He pledged that they would justify the confidence reposed in them through diligence and unwavering commitment to duty.

In a related development, Major General Etim also inaugurated students of the Anti-Tank Platoon Commanders Course 74/2025 at the Ademulugun Hall, Support Weapons Wing, NASI.

Addressing the participants, the Commandant underscored the importance of continuous training to enhance operational proficiency, especially in modern warfare. He noted that the course is designed to equip officers with the requisite skills to effectively employ and coordinate anti-tank assets in both conventional and asymmetric operations.

“This course is aimed at improving the operational efficiency and tactical competence of officers in line with the COAS’ Command Philosophy—to consolidate the transformation of the Nigerian Army toward bequeathing a well-motivated and combat-ready force capable of effectively discharging its constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi-agency environment,” General Etim said.

Earlier, the Chief Instructor, Support Weapons Wing, Colonel Chudi Anaukwu, while outlining the course expectations, explained that the training would prepare participants for the dynamic nature of modern warfare, particularly in counter-insurgency operations. He added that the course participants were drawn from various corps of the Nigerian Army, including Infantry, Intelligence, Supply and Transport (ST), Military Police (MP), and Medical Corps, among others.

The Commandant urged the officers to remain focused throughout the course, warning that there would be no justification for failure.
