ECOWAS Appoints Osinbajo to Lead Election Observation Mission in Côte d’Ivoire

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has appointed former Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, as the head of its Election Observation Mission to Côte d’Ivoire ahead of the country’s presidential election scheduled for October 25, 2025.

According to a statement issued by ECOWAS on Sunday, the mission will be deployed from October 19 to 29, 2025, in accordance with the provisions of the ECOWAS Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.

As Head of Mission, Professor Osinbajo will lead a team of eminent West Africans mandated to engage key national stakeholders in Côte d’Ivoire, support efforts toward a peaceful and credible electoral process, and strengthen collaboration with other international and domestic observer groups. The team will also assess the overall conduct of the polls and the political environment surrounding the election.

ECOWAS said the deployment of the observation mission reflects its continued commitment to promoting peace, stability, and transparent electoral processes across the West African sub-region.

The regional body has been actively involved in election observation and conflict prevention initiatives across member states as part of its efforts to uphold democratic governance and regional integration.
