MAJOR SHAKE-UP: Tinubu Replaces Service Chiefs, Retains CDI

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a major shake-up in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, appointing new Service Chiefs as part of his administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the nation’s security architecture.

In the latest appointments, General Olufemi Oluyede has been named the Chief of Defence Staff, succeeding General Christopher Musa. Major-General W. Shaibu takes over as the Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke assumes office as the Chief of Air Staff. The position of Chief of Naval Staff has been assigned to Rear Admiral I. Abbas.

Meanwhile, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye will continue in his current role as the Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI), retaining his position.

In a statement released on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, President Tinubu expressed deep appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs, particularly General Musa, for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership” during their tenure.

The President urged the newly appointed military chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating a renewed sense of professionalism, vigilance, and unity in the discharge of their duties.

“All appointments take immediate effect,” the statement added.

The changes mark another decisive move by the Tinubu administration to realign Nigeria’s defence structure with current security realities across the country.
