Kano Police Arrest 2 Suspected Bandits, Move to Resolve Herders-Farmers Clash in Makoda

Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have arrested two suspected members of an armed bandit syndicate during a coordinated operation in Shanono Local Government Area, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security across the state.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspects were apprehended in the early hours of Friday, October 24, 2025, following credible intelligence from residents of the Farin Ruwa community. The operation was carried out jointly by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad and officers of the Shanono Division.

The suspects, believed to be collaborators of bandits attempting to infiltrate Kano State, are currently under investigation to determine the scope of their operations and connections with other criminal elements. The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, has directed intensified efforts to track down other members of the syndicate still at large.

CP Bakori commended the vigilance and cooperation of the Farin Ruwa community for their role in providing actionable intelligence that led to the arrests. He urged residents to remain security-conscious and continue to report suspicious movements to the police for prompt action.

In a related development, the Kano Police Command has stepped up peacebuilding engagements in Makoda Local Government Area following recent clashes between herders and farmers in Barebari Ward. The engagements, led by the Area Commander Dambatta, ACP Mohammed Mani Gwarzo, have been aimed at restoring peace and preventing further escalation of the conflict.

A follow-up meeting chaired by CP Bakori was held on Friday at the Command Headquarters, bringing together key stakeholders to deliberate on sustainable solutions to the recurring tensions. The Police Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and properties while ensuring peaceful coexistence among residents.

“The Kano State Police Command remains unwavering in its determination to combat crime and maintain a safe environment for all,” CP Bakori said, calling for continued collaboration between the police and community members.

The Command reiterated that collective responsibility remains vital in tackling insecurity and assured the public that ongoing operations across various parts of the state will continue until criminal networks are dismantled.
