How Troops Eliminated 80 Bandits Along Kebbi–Zamfara Border – Kebbi Gov’t
Troops of the Nigerian military have neutralized no fewer than 80 bandits during a major counteroffensive along the Kebbi–Zamfara border, marking one of the most decisive security operations in the North-West in recent months.
The Special Adviser to the Kebbi State Governor on Communication and Strategy, Abdullahi Zuru, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, describing the operation as a landmark victory in the ongoing fight against banditry and terrorism in the region.
According to Zuru, the operation took place in Ngaski Local Government Area following the strategic deployment of fully equipped troops along Kebbi’s borders with Sokoto, Zamfara, and Niger States, as directed by Governor Nasir Idris.
He explained that Governor Idris had earlier requested additional military reinforcements to tighten border security — a move that has led to the neutralization of hundreds of bandits and the gradual restoration of peace in several affected communities.

The Director of Security, Abdulrahman Usman, revealed that the latest assault was triggered by credible intelligence that bandits were planning to invade Makurdi village. Troops immediately mobilized to the area, engaging the heavily armed attackers in intense gun battles on Friday and Saturday nights.
“About 80 bandits were neutralized, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds. The troops also recovered dozens of motorcycles and rescued two abducted victims,” Usman stated.
Zuru noted that the success was a result of the close collaboration between the Kebbi State Government and security agencies, particularly the Nigerian Army, which has intensified operations in identified hotspots.
He added that Governor Idris recently donated 100 Hilux vans and 5,000 motorcycles to enhance the mobility and rapid response capacity of troops across the state.
Reacting to the military success, the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Zayyanu Muhammad, commended the gallantry of the troops and lauded Governor Idris for his unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property.
“The people of Kebbi are proud of the sacrifices of our soldiers and the leadership of Governor Idris, whose efforts are restoring peace and hope to our communities,” the Emir said.
Security sources confirmed that the sustained military onslaught has forced several bandit groups to retreat deeper into the forests, signaling that Kebbi State is becoming increasingly unsafe for criminal elements.
