IGP Appoints Pioneer Director for Medical Services Directorate
In a major step toward deepening police reforms and improving the welfare of officers, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Nkechi Eze as the pioneer Director of the newly established Directorate of Force Medical Services.
The appointment follows the recent upgrade of the Force Medical Section to a full-fledged Directorate — a development described as a landmark stride in institutionalizing comprehensive, accessible, and efficient healthcare delivery within the Nigeria Police Force.

Born in Umuahia, Abia State, and a native of Agbudu in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, Eze holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile-Ife, and a Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Benin.
Over the course of her illustrious career, she has served across several police formations in Oyo, Ekiti, Rivers, the Federal Capital Territory, and Lagos, where she made notable contributions to the development of police healthcare and personnel welfare systems.
While congratulating AIG Eze on her well-deserved appointment, IGP Egbetokun urged her to bring her vast experience and administrative expertise to bear in repositioning the Directorate as a model for excellence in healthcare service delivery within the Force.
The IGP emphasized that the establishment of the Directorate represents a strategic investment in the health, productivity, and morale of police personnel, reaffirming that officers’ welfare remains central to the operational efficiency of the Nigeria Police Force.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, anipr, mipra, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Thursday, October 30, 2025.
