Troops Eliminate Bandits, Rescue Hostages in Zamfara, Repel ISWAP Attack in Borno
Nigerian military forces have recorded significant successes in separate operations across Zamfara and Borno States, rescuing kidnapped civilians, neutralising armed criminals, and preventing terrorist attacks.
In Zamfara State, troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, in collaboration with local vigilantes, rescued several kidnapped victims and neutralised an unspecified number of bandits during a clearance operation between Kucheri and Wanzamai areas under Tsafe Local Government Area.
PRNigeria gathered that the operation followed intelligence reports on armed bandits who had abducted residents from Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State and were hiding in the forest.
Troops engaged the criminals in a fierce gun duel, killing some and forcing others to flee with gunshot wounds. Eight motorcycles, including Honda and Boxer models, were recovered from the criminals. The rescued victims were handed over to authorities for medical attention and reunification with their families.

“The operation was successful. Many of the kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed,” a military source said. Tsafe, located along the Gusau–Funtua highway, has been a hotspot for banditry in the Northwest, prompting intensified military operations to dismantle criminal enclaves.
Meanwhile, in Borno State, troops of Operation Hadin Kai successfully repelled a coordinated attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram terrorists on Kukawa town. The insurgents attempted to infiltrate communities using civilians as human shields but were met with heavy resistance from the 19 Brigade. A vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) was destroyed by a T-55 tank, while a suicide bomber was neutralised and several terrorists fled in disarray.
In related operations, 11 family members of ISWAP fighters, including four women and seven children, surrendered to troops at Mayanti and Tango 16 in Bama Local Government Area.
Additionally, troops of the 24 Task Force Brigade discovered and safely detonated three IEDs along the Dikwa–Ajiri Road, while Sector 3 troops arrested five suspects during a cordon-and-search operation in Monguno town.
These operations underscore the Nigerian military’s ongoing commitment to neutralising threats, protecting civilians, and restoring peace in both the Northwest and Northeast regions.
