FG Rejects “Christian Genocide” Claim, Minister Tuggar Cites Constitutional Safeguards

The Federal Government has once again refuted allegations that it is complicit in the mass killing of Christians in Nigeria, describing the alleged genocide as a “repeatedly told lie” sustained by coordinated local and global propaganda.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, made the statement on Thursday while hosting the management team of Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR), publishers of PRNigeria and Economic Confidential, in his office.

During the meeting, Ambassador Tuggar presented detailed analyses of Nigeria’s governance structure to the IMPR delegation, highlighting how the Constitution operates independently of religious bias or influence.

One document noted that the “linear and simplistic ‘us versus them’ or ‘persecutor versus victim’ dichotomy” implicit in the Christian persecution narrative tends to ignore the deeper historical, socio-cultural, and socio-economic contexts of conflict in Nigeria.

The report further explained that conflicts often portrayed as religious are, in reality, rooted in economic disputes. It warned that single narratives polarize debates, focus on blame rather than solutions, and ultimately undermine peacebuilding efforts. The documents, which emphasize that most parts of the country are safe, have been forwarded to members of the U.S. Congress and the international community.

Ambassador Tuggar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting unity and tolerance while engaging global partners to ensure balanced and fact-based reporting on the country’s internal affairs.

During the visit, the Editor-in-Chief of IMPR, Malam Yushau Shuaib, presented Ambassador Tuggar with the Economic Confidential Minister of the Year Award in recognition of his significant contributions to transforming Nigeria’s foreign policy.

The presentation was made after the Minister was unavoidably absent from the 3rd Economic Confidential Public Lecture, where the award was originally scheduled.

The IMPR delegation also unveiled a new book chronicling the Minister’s diplomatic achievements, titled “Diplomacy and Digital Innovation: Youth Insight.” Co-authored by two National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, Umar Farouk Bala and Fatima Yusuf Usman, the book was inspired by Ambassador Tuggar’s accomplishments, including renewing bilateral ties with Kuwait and strengthening Nigeria’s partnership with the BRICS bloc.
