FG Refutes Trump’s Allegation of Christian Killings, Reaffirms Commitment to Religious Harmony
The Federal Government of Nigeria has dismissed recent remarks by U.S. President Donald J. Trump alleging large-scale killings of Christians in the country and calling for Nigeria’s designation as a “Country of Particular Concern.”
In a statement issued on Saturday, November 1, 2025, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, the government described the claims as inaccurate and unreflective of the realities on the ground.
According to the statement signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Spokesperson for the Ministry, Nigerians of all religious faiths have coexisted peacefully for generations, living, working, and worshipping together across the country.

“While Nigeria appreciates global concern for human
rights and religious freedom, these claims do not reflect the situation on the ground,” the statement noted.
The Ministry reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to combating terrorism, promoting interfaith harmony, and protecting the lives and rights of all citizens irrespective of religious or ethnic background.
It further emphasized that Nigeria remains open to constructive engagement with the United States government to deepen mutual understanding of the country’s security challenges and ongoing peacebuilding efforts.
The government assured that it would continue to uphold the principles of tolerance and unity that define the Nigerian nation.
