Military Foil Terrorist Attacks, Eliminate Scores Across North East Region

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) under the Joint Task Force North East have successfully thwarted multiple terrorist attacks and neutralized significant threats across Borno and Adamawa States between October 25 and 31, 2025, the Nigerian military has announced.

The military said the operations, which included engagements in Kukawa, Gwoza–Limankara, and areas near the Sambisa Forest, prevented potential attacks on civilians and disrupted terrorist logistics networks.

On October 25, troops intercepted an attempted Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) targeting Kukawa Town. The vehicle, initially resistant to RPG fire due to its armored surface, was eventually neutralized by a T-55 tank. A 10-year-old civilian girl sustained minor injuries and received medical attention, while the attackers fled the scene.

In collaboration with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), soldiers also discovered and safely dismantled three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along the Dikwa–Ajiri axis, averting potential sabotage on key supply routes.

Further operations on October 29 saw troops of 192 Battalion and CJTF execute a successful ambush in the Gwoza–Limankara area, neutralizing two terrorists and forcing others to flee into the Mandara Mountains. Recovered items revealed continued terrorist reliance on bicycles and local food supplies.

A night ambush on October 30 by 202 Battalion and volunteer forces prevented insurgents from crossing the Gezuwa axis towards Sambisa Forest along the Bama–Konduga Main Supply Route, causing the attackers to retreat in disarray.

In a separate anti-smuggling operation under Operation Strangulation, 232 Battalion intercepted a drum of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and two motorcycles used for illegal conveyance in Fillin Ball and Sebore, Mubi South, Adamawa State. Suspects abandoned the items upon encountering troops.

Also on October 30, following credible intelligence, 144 Battalion and Sector 4 Special Forces, working with hybrid forces and local hunters, conducted a cordon and search in Sabon Gari village, Madagali LGA, Adamawa State, arresting five suspects: Musa Mohammed (38), Gambo Musa (17), Mallam Mohammed (17), Abu Danjuma (27), and Umar Banna (26). Ammunition, desert camouflage uniforms, and 50 wraps of Indian hemp were recovered during the operation.

A follow-up exploitation early on October 31 within a 3-kilometre radius of Sambisa Forest led to the recovery of a deceased terrorist, an AK-47 rifle with ammunition, and four bicycles, with no casualties reported among the troops.

The Air Component Command of OPHK provided critical air support throughout the operations, conducting precision strikes and enhancing battlefield awareness with intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance assets.

The Military High Command commended the troops for their professionalism, gallantry, and unwavering commitment to restoring peace in the North East, reaffirming that the Nigerian Armed Forces remain determined to dismantle terrorist cells, disrupt supply lines, and safeguard vulnerable communities.
