Tinubu to Meet Trump Amid Claims of Christian Persecution in Nigeria — Bwala
Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has announced that President Tinubu is scheduled to meet with US President Donald Trump “in the coming days” to discuss claims of a Christian genocide in Nigeria.
The announcement follows recent comments by Trump, who accused the Nigerian government of neglecting attacks on Christians — remarks that have ignited widespread debate. The US president also threatened military action against terrorist groups in Nigeria and hinted at a potential suspension of American aid and assistance to the country.

Bwala emphasized that both leaders are committed to combating insurgency and terrorism. He noted that Trump had previously supported Nigeria by approving arms sales, which Tinubu’s administration has effectively deployed in counterterrorism operations.
“Both President Bola Tinubu and President Donald Trump have a shared interest in the fight against insurgency and all forms of terrorism against humanity,” Bwala said in a statement on X. “President Trump has assisted Nigeria significantly by authorizing the sale of arms, and President Tinubu has maximized this support in the fight against terrorism, achieving notable results.”
On the question of whether terrorist attacks in Nigeria target only Christians or victims of all faiths, Bwala said such issues would be addressed during the upcoming meeting, which may take place at either the State House in Abuja or the White House in Washington.
“As for the differences regarding whether terrorists in Nigeria target only Christians or people of all faiths, these matters, if they exist, will be discussed and resolved by the two leaders when they meet,” he added.
