Military Eliminate 19 Bandits in Kano Communities, Lose 2 Soldiers, Vigilante

Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation MESA, under the 3 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, have successfully repelled an attack by suspected bandits on several communities in Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, killing 19 of the assailants.

According to a statement issued by Captain Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade, the troops — supported by other security agencies — engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle after receiving credible intelligence about their movement around Ungwan Tudu, Ungwan Tsamiya, and Goron Dutse at about 5:00 p.m. on November 1, 2025.

“The troops swiftly mobilized to the area and intercepted the bandits, who were riding on motorcycles. In the ensuing firefight, 19 of the criminals were neutralized, while several motorcycles and two mobile phones were recovered from the scene,” the statement read.

Captain Zubairu confirmed that two soldiers and one local vigilante member lost their lives during the encounter. He added that further operations are ongoing to secure nearby communities that have suffered repeated attacks and cattle rustling incidents.

“The Nigerian Army urges residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to the nearest security agencies. The Commander, 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmed Tukur, assures law-abiding citizens of the Army’s continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Kano State, in collaboration with sister security agencies,” the statement added.

The operation, according to the Army, is part of sustained efforts to strengthen security in rural areas and restore public confidence in communities affected by bandit incursions.
