Internal Reform: DSS Dismisses 115 Personnel, Warns Public Against Impostors
The Department of State Services (DSS) has dismissed 115 officers as part of wide-ranging internal reforms aimed at strengthening professionalism and accountability within the agency.
In a statement released on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, the secret police explained that the affected personnel were disengaged over a period of time, adding that the action formed part of an ongoing effort to sanitize the service.
“As part of the ongoing reforms in the Department of State Services, the public is hereby informed that a total of 115 personnel have been dismissed over a period,” the statement read.

The DSS cautioned members of the public against dealing with former operatives who continue to impersonate serving officers, noting that despite previous disclaimers, some dismissed personnel have been using the agency’s name to defraud unsuspecting citizens.
It specifically referenced two former officers, Barry Donald and Victor Onyedikachi Godwin, earlier declared impostors by the service. The duo were said to have exploited the DSS identity to commit fraud before being arrested.
“Members of the public are therefore advised to desist from any official dealings with these individuals who have been dismissed by the service,” the statement added.
According to the agency, the names and details of all dismissed personnel have been published on its official website for public awareness and verification.
The DSS reiterated its commitment to maintaining discipline, integrity, and transparency as core values of its operations, assuring Nigerians that ongoing reforms are designed to ensure the agency remains true to its constitutional mandate of safeguarding national security.
