Shekarau @ 70: President Tinubu Hails Ex-Governor’s Legacy of Service

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated former Governor of Kano State, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, on his 70th birthday, describing him as a distinguished statesman and exemplary public servant whose career reflects dedication, humility, and service to humanity.

In a message issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu lauded Shekarau’s illustrious journey in public service — from his early days as a classroom teacher to his rise as a Permanent Secretary in the Kano State Civil Service, before venturing into politics in the early 2000s.

The President recalled Shekarau’s landmark election as Governor of Kano State in 2003 and commended his human-centred approach to governance during his two-term tenure. He noted that the former governor’s policies and programmes left lasting impacts on education, infrastructure, and social development in the state.

President Tinubu also acknowledged Shekarau’s contributions at the national level, having served as Minister of Education between 2014 and 2015, and later as Senator representing Kano Central from 2019 to 2023.

The President expressed gratitude to Senator Shekarau for his unwavering service to the nation as an educator, administrator, and political leader, praying to Almighty Allah to grant him continued good health and strength to keep serving his people and Nigeria.

Shekarau, who turned 70 on November 10, 2025, is widely respected for his integrity, modesty, and enduring influence in Nigeria’s socio-political landscape.
