FG Disburses ₦18bn to Families of Fallen Soldiers, Launches Veterans Databank
The Federal Government has disbursed ₦18 billion in Group Life Insurance benefits to families of fallen soldiers and has launched a digital Veterans Databank and Call Centre to improve welfare management and service delivery to ex-servicemen.
Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar Badaru, made the announcement during a ministerial press briefing at the National Defence College, Abuja, to flag off preparations for the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD).
He said the new digital platform will provide a centralised system for data management, timely response to veterans’ complaints, and effective coordination of welfare support.

“We are introducing a Veterans’ Databank and Call Centre to enhance digital communication, record management, and prompt assistance to ex-servicemen,” Badaru stated. “This will ensure that no veteran is left behind in our welfare drive.”
The Minister also noted that the payment of ₦18 billion in insurance benefits demonstrates the Tinubu administration’s commitment to upholding the dignity of service and honouring the sacrifices of those who paid the ultimate price in defending the nation.
The Ministry, he said, is also reviewing the Nigerian Legion Act to transform it into the Veterans Federation of Nigeria (VFN) a move aimed at modernising the legal framework for veterans’ affairs and improving reintegration support for ex-servicemen.
Beyond financial welfare, the Ministry has also upgraded military hospitals, established the Invictus Care Centre for wounded personnel, and improved healthcare coverage under the Defence Health Maintenance Limited (DHML)
, which currently serves over 400,000 active and retired personnel and their families.
