Troops Arrest Suspected Gunrunner, Recover Cache of Rifles in Plateau

Troops of the 3 Division Garrison and the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP) have arrested a suspected gunrunner and recovered a cache of illegal weapons during a targeted security operation in Plateau State.

The operation, carried out on Friday, November 14, 2025, was part of intensified efforts under the recently launched Operation Peace Shield aimed at curbing the proliferation of illicit firearms and improving security across the Joint Operations Area.

According to military authorities, the suspect, identified as Ishaya Musa, was intercepted at the Jebbu Bassa Bypass checkpoint in Bassa Local Government Area following credible intelligence. A detailed search of his belongings led to the discovery of six fabricated single-barrel rifles, two fabricated revolver rifles, one Dane gun, one expended cartridge, and other items believed to support gunrunning activities.

The suspect and the recovered weapons are currently in military custody for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Officials say the successful interception underscores the unwavering commitment of JTF OPEP to preventing armed violence, protecting residents, and maintaining peace—especially as communities approach the harvest and festive seasons when security threats often spike.

The 3 Division/JTF OPEP called on the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information to security agencies to aid ongoing operations.

The statement was issued by Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Information Officer, JTF Operation Enduring Peace, on November 15, 2025.
