COAS Shaibu Visits Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Vows Stronger Support for Frontline Troops

The operational theatre of Operation FANSAN YAMMA in Zamfara State witnessed renewed confidence on Wednesday as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, embarked on his maiden operational visit, engaging frontline troops and reaffirming the Army’s commitment to their welfare, morale, and joint-service collaboration.

The visit brought together senior commanders from the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force, offering a major morale boost to personnel operating across one of the country’s most challenging security environments.

Addressing the troops, Lt.-Gen. Shaibu commended their courage and resilience despite the vastness and complexity of the area of responsibility under Operation FANSAN YAMMA.

“I am here on my maiden operational visit to Operation FANSAN YAMMA. The area of responsibility is very large, and we understand what that means for all of you operating under difficult circumstances,” he said.

The Army Chief noted that he had received a comprehensive briefing from the Theatre Commander, detailing both operational challenges and critical needs.

“I have just listened to a detailed brief from the Theatre Commander, which outlines the challenges the troops are facing, and we are tackling those challenges headlong,” he assured.

Shaibu underscored the commitment to strengthened inter-service cooperation, highlighting the presence of senior officials from the Air Force and Navy.

“I am here with the Chief of Air Staff, ably represented by AVM Maddy, the Chief of Operation. Together, we are listening to the challenges of both the air and land components. The representative of the Chief of Naval Staff is also here, listening to the concerns of our Special Boat Service personnel. I assure you all that these issues will be addressed going forward,” he said.

The COAS further emphasized discipline, professionalism, and adherence to core military values as crucial to sustaining gains in the fight against terrorism and banditry.

“I want to encourage you to continue to uphold the core values of the Army and the Armed Forces so that we can tackle the myriad challenges confronting Operation FANSAN YAMMA,” he said.

In a message blending firmness with empathy, Shaibu reminded the troops of the significance of their mission.

“As soldiers, you must understand that the job you are doing is a very noble one. Your presence here has ensured that most people go about their daily duties without fear. For that, we appreciate you,” he said.

He reaffirmed that the welfare of personnel remains at the forefront of the Army’s priorities.

“Your welfare issues will be given top priority to ensure that you discharge your duties properly. These challenges are transient. Remain resolute, determined, and carry out your duties professionally. The Nigerian people appreciate what you are doing,” he added.

As the visit drew to a close, the COAS opened the floor for direct interaction with the troops, allowing them to voice concerns and suggestions.

The visit is widely seen as part of broader efforts by the Army leadership to boost troop confidence, strengthen operational synergy, and intensify the ongoing campaign against banditry and terrorism across the North-West. With difficult terrain, dense forests, and fluid adversaries, Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains central to Nigeria’s national security operations.
