DICON Assembles 1,000 Rifles, Targets 60 Million Rounds of Ammunition Annually

The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria-D7G (DICON–D7G) has achieved a significant milestone in Nigeria’s local defence manufacturing drive, successfully assembling nearly 1,000 units of its DG-103 rifle—an upgraded variant of the AK-103—within the first two months of commencing production at its facility in Kaduna.

The achievement was announced by the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Osman Chennar, during a media briefing held on Saturday at DICON-D7G’s Abuja headquarters.

Mr. Chennar confirmed that all rifles from the initial batch have undergone rigorous testing and certification, meeting the operational standards required by the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies.

He also revealed the company’s ambitious targets for ammunition production. “With full operations now underway, our target is to achieve an annual production capacity of sixty million rounds of ammunition,” he stated, underscoring DICON–D7G’s commitment to reinforcing Nigeria’s defence ecosystem.

In addition to small arms, the company is also actively producing drones and anti-drone systems designed to offer essential early-warning capabilities to support military units during field operations.

Further expanding its industrial footprint, DICON-D7G is set to acquire a strategic military jetty in Lagos by February 2026.

Retired Major General MA Masanawa, speaking on behalf of the CEO, announced that the proposed facility will incorporate a production line, warehousing, and staff accommodation. This acquisition is expected to: significantly boost local production capacity and open new opportunities for exporting defence equipment to neighbouring African countries.

Furthermore, the company plans to establish a shipyard at the facility specifically for the servicing and maintenance of naval vessels.

DICON–D7G, a key player in the nation’s renewed hope agenda for defence industrialization, emphasized that these developments mark the beginning of broader efforts to drastically reduce foreign dependence and enhance Nigeria’s national security readiness.
