Troops Eliminate 6 Bandits, Recover Firearms in Zamfara
Troops under Project Garkuwan Arewa have neutralised six suspected bandits and recovered seven AK-47 rifles during a coordinated security operation in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The operation, carried out in Gangara, Tsageru and Sungawa villages, followed credible intelligence on planned attacks by armed groups, a security source revealed on Sunday.
According to the source, the slain bandits were identified as Musa, Shehu, Nasiru, Yusuf, Mantagora and Siddiq. “Troops neutralised the six bandits and recovered seven AK-47 rifles during the operation,” he said.

Despite the setback inflicted on the criminals, remnants of the gang reportedly launched arson attacks on farmlands and properties in surrounding communities in an attempt to intimidate residents and reassert control.
Local vigilante groups are said to be assisting troops in tracking the fleeing suspects. Some bandits were believed to have retreated into Gangara town, a development that has resulted in sporadic gunfire as forces pursue them.
Security authorities described the latest attacks as retaliatory efforts aimed at destabilising rural communities. They also warned that the continued presence of fleeing fighters posed increased risks to civilians unless they are fully cleared from the area.
Troops have since intensified ground patrols across Gangara, Tsageru and Sungawa, while coordination with local intelligence networks has been strengthened to provide early warning on bandit movements.
Operations to track and apprehend escaping suspects are ongoing.
