Air Chief Harps on Innovation, Multi-Source Intelligence to Strengthen Security Architecture

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, on Monday joined top security leaders at the opening of the Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI) Annual Conference, where he reiterated the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to intelligence-led and innovation-driven operations for enhanced national security.

The conference, held on 24 November 2025, brought together the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lieutenant General E.A.P. Undiandeye, senior military commanders, and key national security stakeholders. This year’s edition focused on the theme: *“Multi-Source Intelligence and Innovation in a Changing National Security Ecosystem.”*

Declaring the event open, the Minister of Defence, Dr Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, described Nigeria’s security landscape as increasingly complex and rapidly evolving. He said the challenges require stronger synergy, collective action, and unwavering commitment across all security institutions.

In a keynote address delivered on behalf of the Senate President, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence, Senator Ahmad Lawan, highlighted the pivotal role of multi-source intelligence, innovation, and strategic partnerships in fortifying the nation’s defence capabilities.

Speaking at the conference, Air Marshal Aneke said the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is accelerating efforts to integrate emerging technologies, strengthen partnerships, and enhance its intelligence architecture to improve mission effectiveness. He cited advanced surveillance systems, data-fusion capabilities, and indigenous research as key drivers of more precise, adaptive, and safer air operations.

The Air Chief stressed that improved intelligence frameworks would bolster capacity development, operational resilience, and public confidence. He assured Nigerians that the NAF, in close cooperation with sister services, intelligence agencies, and legislative stakeholders, remains committed to deploying smart, decisive, and responsible airpower to support ongoing national security efforts.

Air Marshal Aneke’s participation at the conference aligns with his broader vision of promoting intelligence-driven, technology-enhanced operations backed by a proactive safety culture—an approach he says is vital to ensuring both mission success and the protection of personnel and civilians.
