Katsina Police Deploy Fresh Security Measures to Protect Schools
The Katsina State Police Command has heightened security around schools following fresh concerns over student abductions across parts of northern Nigeria.
In a statement on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, said Commissioner of Police Bello Shehu has directed the Coordinator of the School Protection Squad to immediately activate all security mechanisms designed to protect students, teachers, and school infrastructure.
Aliyu said the directive was issued during a strategic meeting with tactical commanders to reassess the state’s security posture. He added that the move aligns with the nationwide instructions of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who recently ordered all commands to prioritise security around educational institutions.

To reinforce this mandate, CP Shehu ordered the deployment of additional personnel, surveillance units, and tactical resources to vulnerable schools and surrounding communities.
He urged the public to support the ongoing security operations, stressing that timely information and community vigilance are critical to preventing further attacks. “Members of the public should promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the police,” the commissioner advised.
PRNigeria had earlier reported an alarming uptick in school-targeted attacks in Kebbi and Niger States, resulting in multiple student kidnappings.
The worsening situation has forced several state governments to shut down schools either temporarily or completely as a precautionary measure.
The Katsina Command said it remains fully committed to preventing similar breaches within the state and ensuring that learning continues without fear.
