Troops Intercept Drug Courier, Seize 108kg of Cannabis in Kogi

Troops of the Nigerian Army have intercepted a major drug courier transporting over 108 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa into Kogi State, in a development authorities say will help disrupt criminal networks linked to banditry and other violent crimes in the region.

The interception was carried out on 24 November 2025 by soldiers of the 12 Brigade deployed at the Agbede Response Area. The troops, during a routine stop-and-search operation, flagged down a Toyota Camry with registration number DKA 158AU en route from Ekiti State to Obajana.

The vehicle was driven by one Mr. Johnson Ayo, who reportedly had a branded police cap and belt on his dashboard—items that immediately aroused suspicion. A thorough search of the car uncovered 10 sacks of Cannabis Sativa weighing 108.8 kilograms, carefully concealed inside the vehicle.

Preliminary investigations indicate that large-scale drug movements of this nature provide financial lifelines for criminal elements and fuel the chain of activities that often escalate into banditry across Kogi State and neighbouring areas.

The suspect, along with the seized items, has been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kogi State Command, for further investigation.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to supporting national efforts aimed at curbing drug trafficking, dismantling criminal networks, and enhancing public safety.

The statement was signed by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army.
