Customs Board Promotes Distinguished PR Professionals Bomodi, Maiwada as New Management Team Emerges

The Nigeria Customs Service Board (NCSB) has approved the promotion of several senior officers, including distinguished Public Relations professionals and former spokespersons, Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) Timi Bomodi and Assistant Comptroller of Customs (ACC) Abdullahi Maiwada.

The promotions were ratified during the Board’s 64th Regular Meeting held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. The session addressed critical matters of leadership restructuring, personnel development, and special recognitions within the Service

Chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, the Board confirmed the appointment of five Deputy Comptroller-Generals (DCGs) and eight Assistant Comptroller-Generals (ACGs) in line with statutory provisions and the Federal Character Policy as stipulated in Section 14(4) of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023.

The newly appointed Deputy Comptroller-Generals include Baba Imam (North-East), Isah Umar (North-West), Tijjani Abe (North-West), Timi Bomodi (South-South), and Oluyomi Adebakin (South-West). Their elevation follows the recent retirement of several senior officers and is expected to strengthen strategic leadership across key Customs formations.

The Board also approved the promotion of eight officers to the rank of Assistant Comptroller-General. The new ACGs are C.G. Ogbonna (South-East), I. Abba-Aji (North-East), G.M. Haruna (South-South), E.J. Edelduok (South-South), G. Gaura (North-West), I. Isyaku (North-West), M.S. Shuaibu (North-Central), and M.D. Malah (North-East). Their appointments reflect the Service’s commitment to operational efficiency, policy implementation, and strengthened compliance management.

In addition, ten officers received Special Promotion in recognition of exceptional professionalism, leadership, and outstanding service performance. They include A.C. Fanyam (Comptroller), G.M. Shidali (Comptroller), S. Omofoma (Deputy Comptroller), O.A. Oladepo (Deputy Comptroller), A.Y. Musa (Deputy Comptroller), A. Ogboru (Deputy Comptroller), Abdullahi Maiwada (Deputy Comptroller), C.N. Essien (Assistant Comptroller), H. Aliyu (Assistant Comptroller), and A.S. Shofadekan (Deputy Superintendent).

The Board stated that the Special Promotion category is reserved for officers whose contributions have significantly enhanced operational outcomes, boosted national revenue, or supported security operations across various units.

It emphasized that the promotions and appointments form part of broader efforts to deepen leadership succession planning, enhance morale, and ensure the Service remains responsive to evolving trade, border security, and administrative challenges.

PRNigeria reports that the newly elevated Deputy Comptroller-General Timi Bomodi, a distinguished former National Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Customs Service, brings a distinguished career spanning high-profile operational and communication roles. He became acting ACG in August 2024 after his promotion to Comptroller in January 2023. As spokesperson in 2022, Bomodi championed improved public perception and transparency and earned recognition for his leadership at the Seme Border Command.

The furrent National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Aliyu Maiwada, also earned Special Promotion to Deputy Comptroller. Born on January 12, 1987, in Katsina State, he holds multiple advanced degrees, including Bachelor’s and Master’s qualifications in Education/Geography and Environmental Management from Bayero University Kano, as well as Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mass Communication from Crescent University Abeokuta. He further obtained a PhD from the University of Abuja.

Enlisted as Cadet ASC II in 2011, Maiwada became the substantive NCS spokesperson in April 2023, after serving as Deputy National PRO and pioneer Liaison Officer for the Nigeria Customs Broadcasting Network (NCBN). A member of multiple professional bodies, and multi-award winning communicator, Maiwada bagged the 2024 Best Spokesperson of the Year Award instituted by Spokespersons Digest, a publication of Image Merchants Promotion.

The Board’s latest decisions mark another major step toward repositioning the Nigeria Customs Service for greater efficiency, accountability, and modernized operations.
