Troop Repel Bandits, Rescues Kidnapped Victim in Kogi
Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have thwarted a bandit attack and rescued a kidnapped victim during a coordinated operation around the Oshokoshoko–Obajana axis in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.
In a statement released early Wednesday, the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations for the 12 Brigade, Lt. Hassan Abdulahi, said the operation was part of sustained offensives against banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state.
According to him, troops swung into action in the early hours of November 25, 2025, after receiving credible intelligence that armed bandits were moving through the corridor with abducted persons.
“Troops deployed at the Kabba Patrol Base, in collaboration with hybrid forces, launched a special ambush to intercept the criminals,” he said.
Abdulahi said the soldiers made contact with the bandits who were travelling with an unconfirmed number of fighters after they walked into the ambush.

“The criminals opened fire but were overwhelmed by the superior firepower of our troops, forcing them to retreat in disarray. One bandit was neutralised in the firefight, while others fled with gunshot wounds,” he added.
The troops recovered an AK-47 rifle from the scene and successfully rescued a kidnapped victim, who was found exhausted and traumatised. He was immediately evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.
Abdulahi said troops have intensified pursuit operations to track fleeing members of the gang, adding that the brigade remains committed to stamping out criminal activities across Kogi.
“The Nigerian Army will continue to maintain relentless pressure on criminal elements to ensure the safety of communities across the state. Residents are urged to support ongoing operations by providing timely and credible information,” the statement added.
Troops of the 12 Brigade have recently recorded several breakthroughs in the state’s security operations. On November 2, soldiers deployed at the Forward Operating Base in Oguma rescued two kidnapped victims and recovered ransom money intended for their release.
