Insurgency: Army Commanders Evaluate Logistics, Medical Needs in North-East

Commanders of the Nigerian Army’s Combat Service Support (CSS) Corps have commenced a four-day operational visit to Headquarters Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) in Maiduguri, Borno State, as part of efforts to strengthen logistics, medical support, and overall combat readiness in the North-East theatre.

The visit, which runs from 26 to 29 November 2025, brings together the heads of the Army’s critical service support formations, including the Commander Corps of Supply and Transport (CCST), Major General Nansak Shagaya; Corps Commander Ordnance (CCO), Major General Abdullahi Ibrahim; Commander Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (CC EME), Major General Adeyinka Adereti; and Commander Corps of Medical, Brigadier General Innocent Enwuchola.

A statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force North-East Operation HADIN KAI, today in Borno.

The delegation was received on Wednesday by the Theatre Commander Joint Task Force North-East Operation HADIN KAI, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, at the Theatre Headquarters in Maimalari Cantonment.

Speaking on behalf of the visiting delegation, Major General Shagaya commended officers and soldiers of OPHK for their sustained sacrifices in the counter-insurgency fight. He said the purpose of the visit was to conduct a broad operational logistics assessment across formations and units in the theatre to determine current capacity and identify gaps in sustaining ongoing and future operations.

He acknowledged the progress already recorded but urged the troops not to relent, stressing that maintaining momentum was essential despite persisting security challenges. Shagaya described the Theatre’s operational briefing as “insightful and highly commendable.”

The commanders, in their separate remarks, praised Major General Abubakar for his leadership in improving logistics delivery, equipment maintenance culture, and overall support systems essential for frontline operations. They pledged to escalate all observations, challenges, and recommendations to higher authorities for necessary intervention.

The Corps Commander Medical, Brigadier General Enwuchola, hailed the gallantry of OPHK troops and disclosed that plans were underway to upgrade the 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital (7 DMSH) to meet modern medical standards for troops’ care and emergency response.

Similarly, the Corps Commander Ordnance, Major General Ibrahim, emphasised the strategic importance of logistics in modern warfare, assuring that identified needs would be addressed to enhance operational effectiveness.

On his part, the Commander Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Major General Adereti, commended the successes achieved by OPHK in neutralising terrorists and disrupting their logistics networks.

He reminded commanders that equipment maintenance remains a command responsibility, urging them to ensure platforms remain fully serviceable by effectively utilising EME personnel.

Responding, the Theatre Commander, Major General Abubakar, expressed gratitude for the visit and reaffirmed that logistics remain central to mission success. He expressed confidence that the assessment tour would further boost OPHK’s operational efficiency and support ongoing counter-terrorism gains.

The four-day operational tour will also cover Headquarters 7 Division Nigerian Army, Sector 1, as well as Sectors 2 and 3 of Operation HADIN KAI.
