Army Elevates 28 Brigadier Generals, 77 Colonels in Major Leadership Shake-Up

Army Elevates 28 Brigadier Generals, 77 Colonels in Major Leadership Shake-Up

The Nigerian Army has approved the promotion of 28 Brigadier Generals to Major General and 77 Colonels to Brigadier General, marking a significant restructuring of its senior leadership.

The announcement was made on Friday by Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, via the Nigerian Army’s official Facebook  account.

Notable officers promoted to Major General include Brig Gen O. Adegbe of the Defence Intelligence Agency, Brig Gen S.M. Uba, Director of Defence Information, Brig Gen R.E. Hedima, Acting Chief of Military Intelligence Army, and Brig Gen R.T. Utsaha, Deputy Director of Defence Operations.

Others elevated include Brig Gen A.M. Umar, Commandant of the Warrant Officer Academy; Brig Gen S. Sulaiman, Deputy Military Secretary (Army); Brig Gen I.O. Bassey, Director of Nigerian Army Operations Centre; and Brig Gen C.A. Ekeator of the Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.

Additional promotions to Major General were awarded to Brig Gen S.Y. Yakasai, Acting Director of Procurement in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff; Brig Gen W.L. Nzidee, Army Headquarters Department of Army Logistics; Brig Gen S.A. Emmanuel of the Nigerian Army Signals; Brig Gen S.S. Tilawan, Acting Commander Sector 3 Joint Task Force, North East Operation HADIN KAI; Brig Gen M.O. Agi, Desk Officer at the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Nigerian Defence Academy; and Brig Gen I.M. Abbas, Commander of 34 Brigade.

Brig Gen Z.A. Saidu received a posthumous promotion in recognition of his distinguished service.

Promotions from Colonel to Brigadier General span officers serving in key army units and institutions, including the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji, Army Headquarters departments, Special Forces Brigades, and multiple military hospitals.

In his remarks, Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu, congratulated the officers and their families, urging them to demonstrate exemplary leadership, inspire subordinates through personal conduct, and adopt innovative strategies to address evolving security challenges.

Shaibu emphasized the officers’ duty to uphold their oath of allegiance and loyalty to the Constitution, reinforcing the army’s commitment to defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

The promotions are part of a strategic effort to strengthen operational efficiency and enhance the Nigerian Army’s capacity to respond effectively to national security threats.
