IGP Withdraws 11,566 VIP Escorts, Orders Nationwide Security Reinforcement
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun on Thursday convened a high-level strategic conference with senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja, issuing new directives aimed at strengthening internal security and enhancing nationwide safety ahead of the festive season.
The meeting, held at the Peacekeeping Hall of the Force Headquarters, brought together Commissioners of Police and tactical commanders for an operational review and strategic briefing on emerging security concerns across the country.
In his remarks, Egbetokun praised senior officers for their dedication, resilience, and sacrifices in safeguarding lives and property. He outlined fresh operational measures, including intensified intelligence gathering, deeper community policing engagements, strengthened protection of vulnerable communities, and an immediate scale-up of visible policing through expanded personnel deployment nationwide.

The IGP said the proactive measures were necessary to deter criminal activities and reassure citizens as year-end festivities approach.
Addressing the ongoing execution of the Presidential Directive on the withdrawal of police officers attached to Very Important Persons (VIPs), Egbetokun confirmed that 11,566 personnel have so far been removed from VIP escorts and special protection duties. He explained that the redeployed officers will boost manpower for frontline policing and improve overall national security.
He stressed that the withdrawal is a critical step toward strengthening the Force’s capacity to respond to threats and protect the wider population.
Reaffirming the Police Force’s commitment to public safety, Egbetokun assured Nigerians that the NPF will continue to intensify all necessary measures to ensure a safe, secure, and peaceful environment for citizens, residents, and visitors across the country.
