NAF Promotes 27 AVMs, 30 Air Commodores
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced the promotion of 57 senior officers, marking one of the largest single-round elevation exercises in recent years as the Service intensifies efforts to restructure and strengthen its command architecture.
According to a statement issued by Air Commodore Ehimen O. Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, the Air Council approved the promotion of 27 Group Captains to the rank of Air Vice Marshal (AVM) and 30 Colonels (Air Commodores) to Group Captain.
Ejodame said the promotion exercise reflects the confidence of the Air Council in the professionalism, loyalty, and leadership capacity of senior NAF officers who have demonstrated consistent commitment to national security.
He noted that the newly elevated officers were carefully selected based on merit, service records, strategic needs, and the evolving security environment.

The NAF Spokesperson said the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, congratulated the newly promoted officers, describing their elevation as both “a reward for diligence and a call for higher responsibility.”
Abubakar urged them to redouble their efforts, especially as the Air Force continues to play a critical role in counterterrorism operations, air interdiction, maritime security, and support to joint task forces nationwide.
He emphasized that the new ranks come with heightened expectations in an era where Nigeria faces “complex and rapidly evolving security threats requiring strategic leadership and decisive action.”
Air Marshal Abubakar further reaffirmed the NAF’s commitment to continuous capacity development, improved welfare for personnel, and acquisition of modern platforms to enhance operational effectiveness.
The promotion exercise, observers say, is expected to strengthen command stability, improve operational planning, and boost morale across the Service particularly as NAF intensifies its kinetic and intelligence-driven operations across theatres.
