Troops Repel ISWAP Attack in Chibok as NAF Airstrikes Eliminate Scores of Fleeing Terrorists
Troops of the 28 Task Force Brigade, Sector 4 under Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), on Saturday foiled a massive pre-dawn assault by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram terrorists on Chibok, Borno State.
It was gathered that the counter-offensive was followed by precision airstrikes from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), which neutralised large numbers of fleeing fighters.
The insurgents, estimated at more than 300, launched a coordinated multi-directional attack on the community around 3:00 a.m., attempting to breach military defensive positions. However, soldiers on ground swiftly engaged the terrorists, leading to a fierce two-hour firefight.
A security source revealed that the troops deployed superior firepower, tactical manoeuvres, and effective communication to contain the onslaught.
“The troops were alert and professionally contained the attack. There was no casualty on our side, and no equipment was affected,” the source said, noting that the attackers were eventually forced to retreat toward the Timbuktu Triangle.

Following the withdrawal, ground forces requested air support, which prompted the immediate deployment of NAF combat aircraft to the terrorists’ escape routes. The aircraft executed multiple precision strikes that decimated clusters of fighters attempting to regroup.
According to security sources, four major air interdictions were carried out by NAF jets along the retreat path, guided by real-time intelligence provided by ground troops of the 28 Task Force Brigade.
“The first wave of strikes targeted a group of fleeing terrorists trying to reorganise, achieving significant degradation of the hostile elements,” one of the sources disclosed. Subsequent airstrikes pursued additional pockets of fighters dispersing into forested areas.
In addition to the manned aircraft operations, an unmanned aerial platform maintained continuous intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) coverage. It later executed high-precision strikes that further neutralised escaping terrorists and disrupted their movement pattern.
Security sources said the combined ground and air operations inflicted “substantial losses” on the insurgents, eliminating any chance of regrouping after the failed attack.
The swift and coordinated response underscored the increasing effectiveness of joint military operations in the North-East theatre.
