North-West Summit: Badaru Unveils Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Security Blueprint

The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has outlined President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope security vision for the North-West, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to stabilising the region and strengthening national unity.

Speaking at the North-West Zonal Security Summit held on Saturday in Kaduna, Badaru said the President’s security blueprint is anchored on community resilience, interagency cooperation, and shared responsibility among all stakeholders.

The summit was convened by the Senate Ad-Hoc Committee on National Security to address escalating security concerns in the region and to deepen collaboration among state and federal actors.

Delivering his keynote goodwill message, the Minister said President Tinubu remains unwavering in prioritising the safety and cohesion of the nation, stressing that the Renewed Hope Agenda places national security, unity and inclusive development at its core.

According to him, “President Tinubu’s vision is for a harmonious society built on shared prosperity, mutual tolerance, and respect for every Nigerian.” He noted that significant progress has been recorded due to improved synergy among the military, security agencies, and community stakeholders.

Badaru emphasised that securing the North-West requires a comprehensive and adaptive security architecture, backed by stronger intelligence-sharing and sustained engagement across all levels. He reiterated that national security is a collective responsibility, calling on citizens, communities and state governments to deepen their involvement.

The Minister commended state governors for their crucial role as Chief Security Officers, citing their logistics support, establishment of early-warning systems and community-driven initiatives.

He also praised traditional rulers for building trust and mediating conflicts; women and youth groups for their vigilance and post-crisis support; and religious and civil society organisations for countering misinformation and promoting peace.

Reinforcing President Tinubu’s directives, Badaru urged the Armed Forces and other security agencies to maintain momentum in interagency cooperation, protection of schools and vulnerable communities, and strengthening local security frameworks.

He applauded the Senate for hosting the summit, noting that such engagements promote transparency, accountability and national dialogue in addressing the country’s security challenges.

The event was attended by key stakeholders, including Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani, the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, representatives of other state governments, traditional rulers, Islamic scholars, civil society groups and security experts.

Badaru assured the gathering that the Ministry of Defence remains committed to working with all partners across the region to entrench stability, boost public confidence, and advance the Renewed Hope Agenda throughout the North-West.
