Troops Eliminate 4 Armed Militia, Recover Weapons  in Karim Lamido, Taraba

Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have neutralised four armed militia members and recovered weapons in a swift operation launched to contain renewed communal violence in Usmanu Village, Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, disclosed this information in a statement issued to newsmen on Sunday.

The operation was triggered by credible intelligence indicating a resurgence of clashes between the Shomo and Wurkun communities over a protracted land dispute. The disagreement, which escalated in recent days, led to the burning of houses and destruction of property.

According to military sources, soldiers deployed to the area came under attack from armed assailants who advanced from the Fadama axis. A brief but intense firefight ensued, during which four attackers were killed.

A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of three dane guns, a fabricated AK-47 rifle, 25 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and two motorcycles.

In a development highlighting the complexity of the violence, one personnel of the Nigeria Police Force was arrested after he was allegedly found operating alongside the militia. Military authorities said he is undergoing investigation to determine his level of involvement.

Commander of the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their professionalism and prompt response. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s determination to rid Taraba of criminal elements and sustain ongoing operations across all assigned areas.

General Uwa urged residents of Karim Lamido and surrounding communities to remain calm and continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information, stressing that the Army remains committed to restoring lasting peace.

The Nigerian Army called on citizens to report suspicious movements as operations under Operation Peace Shield, Operation Lafiya Nakowa, and Operation Zafin Wuta continue across the state.
