Troops Rescue Six Kidnap Victims in Coordinated Operation in Kogi

Troops of the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued six kidnapped victims during a coordinated military operation in the Ejiba and Saminaka forests of Yagba East Local Government Area, Kogi State.

The Brigade’s spokesperson, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Lokoja, said the rescue followed a series of intensified operations aimed at curbing banditry and kidnapping across the region.

According to Abdullahi, the operation—conducted through a joint air and ground offensive and supported by a Nigeria Police helicopter forced the kidnappers to abandon their captives as troops closed in on their hideouts.

“The victims were successfully intercepted after being deserted by the bandits, who fled due to sustained military pressure,” he said.

He added that five of the rescued persons had already been reunited with their families in Egbe and Ejiba communities, while the sixth victim is currently receiving medical attention.

The Brigade assured residents of Kogi State of the Army’s continued commitment to protecting lives and property, noting that troops will sustain aggressive patrols and dominate forested areas where criminal elements seek refuge.

“Troops will continue to intensify operations, dominate identified hideouts, and deny criminals the freedom of action,” Abdullahi said.

The rescue comes barely 48 hours after armed bandits attacked a Cherubim and Seraphim Church during Sunday service in Ejiba community, abducting the pastor and several worshippers.
