PSC Holds Stakeholders Meeting on Massive Police Recruitment, Pledges Transparency, Gender Inclusivity
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has convened a strategic stakeholders meeting with the Nigeria Police Force, the Ministry of Police Affairs, and the Federal Character Commission to fine-tune plans for the recruitment of 50,000 police officers.
Held at the PSC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, 2 December 2025, the meeting focused on ensuring a seamless, transparent, and credible recruitment exercise that upholds fairness, equity, and merit.
In his opening remarks, PSC Chairman DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), represented by DIG (Dr) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), fdc, emphasized the Commission’s commitment to an open and inclusive process aimed at strengthening the capacity and diversity of the Nigeria Police Force. DIG Lakanu serves as a Board Member and Chairman of the PSC Standing Committee on Nigeria Police Force Matters.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs, Dr. Anuma Ogbonnaya, who led the Ministry’s delegation, expressed optimism about the process and assured the Commission of the Ministry’s full collaboration.
Key resolutions from the meeting include:
a. Strict adherence to the Federal Character principles to ensure equitable representation across all states and geopolitical zones.
b. Emphasis on gender inclusivity, with deliberate measures to encourage and facilitate the recruitment of qualified female candidates.
c. Assurance of a transparent, technology-driven process that will be publicly accessible and free from undue interference.
The PSC and collaborating agencies pledged to work in synergy to uphold the integrity of the exercise, promote national unity, and deliver a recruitment process that meets public expectations.
The Police Service Commission assured prospective applicants and the general public that the recruitment would be conducted with the highest level of accountability and in compliance with existing laws and guidelines.
