CCC Tasks New Defence Minister Musa on Bureaucracy, Operational Efficiency, Welfare
The Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC) has welcomed the appointment of former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), as the new Minister of Defence, but immediately charged him to tackle critical challenges, including military bureaucracy, operational efficiency and personnel welfare.
In a statement signed and issued to newsmen on Friday by Chidi Omeje, Communication Officer, the CCC lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s selection, describing the appointment as a “testament to General Musa’s distinguished career, sterling leadership record, and unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s peace, stability, and national security.”
The Centre commended the President for his “thoughtful insight and statesmanship in selecting a personality of such pedigree,” noting that the choice reflects a deep understanding of the nation’s security needs. The CCC further stated that General Musa’s new role is a “golden opportunity to deploy his decades of military experience, strategic leadership, and operational expertise toward addressing the lingering security challenges bedeviling the country.”

The Centre was explicit in its demands for administrative reform, urging the new Minister to “confront and eliminate the unnecessary bureaucracies and structural bottlenecks that continue to hinder the smooth execution of military operations and undermine the synergy between security institutions and democratic governance.” It emphasized that “streamlined processes and improved responsiveness are essential to achieving timely and effective security outcomes.”
A major focus of the CCC’s call was the need for improved support for military personnel. The statement urged General Musa to “prioritize and promote the welfare of serving personnel and retired veterans, whose sacrifices remain the backbone of Nigeria’s security system.”
Additionally, the Centre encouraged robust efforts aimed at “curtailing corruption, fraud, and malpractice within the procurement chain and the broader conduct of military operations,” arguing that “Transparency, accountability, and integrity remain indispensable to restoring public confidence and ensuring value-driven defence expenditure.”
The CCC also advocated for enhanced interagency cooperation, calling for “healthy, robust, and efficient interagency collaboration” among the Armed Forces, intelligence agencies, and law enforcement bodies to achieve unified and sustainable results.
Finally, the body urged the Minister to prioritize the “maximization of advanced technology in modern warfare,” alongside strengthening the continuous training and retraining of personnel across all ranks, asserting that a “technologically empowered and well-prepared military is essential for safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty and national interests.”
The statement concluded by expressing confidence in General Musa’s “capacity to deliver transformative leadership in Nigeria’s defence sector.”
